WHY DID THE CHICKEN CROSS THE ROAD? BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANT TO BE LATE FOR DINNER!
SUNDAY! Eating in China is ALWAYS such an adventure - it's just like eating at Panda Express back in the United States - NOT! Look, on the Riding4Beer 2011 China Tour we try following the food pyramid and balance our protein intake with a healthy mixture of carbohydrates and fat, but sometimes it gets a little out of whack - like last night.! Let's just say we learned about Chinese refrigeration - or the lack thereof!
It started out with us noticing all these chickens wandering around the front of a restaurant - eggs, right? So Kevin (brilliant wizard that he is) orders chicken and noodles for dinner. A minute later we see the cook wander through the restaurant with a live chicken in his hands. He goes behind a dirty curtain, there's all kinds of squawking and feathers flying everywhere and then, fifteen minutes later - chicken with noodles is served! Talk about fresh food! In the meantime a pot of boiling water fired by... ahh ....fire, is placed on our table and we're expected to cook our side dishes, which were some weird green leaves, some unwashed mushrooms and some pieces of bamboo. Like we said, it's just like Panda Express!
Folks, after eating dinner last night we decided our time in Shanghai has come to an end. We're tired of all of this high-end Ritz Carlton living - and also the police have asked us (told us) to leave. We have tickets on the afternoon train to Nanjing (former capital of China a thousand years ago or something important like that) and a police escort to the station. We tried to get our hands on a motorcycle, but it's been raining here for two days straight, and as much as we like wet things (wink wink), we're gonna take the dry route this time. The next time we have one of these little chats with you it'll be Monday , we won't be living so high class and we'll be....
A FEW PICS SO YOU CAN COOK ALONG AT HOME!

So, here's the chicken in front of the restaurant. Here's that VERY SAME chicken 15 minutes later!

Meanwhile, Kevin cooked the side dishes! Remember this GREAT environmental idea?

I think the chicken crossed the road (at a very high rate of speed) because he didn't want to BE dinner...
