"ICH BIN EIN BERLINER!" (JKF, BABY - 1963!)
THURSDAY! What a WILD night in Hamburg! Okay, so it’s mostly an industrial city, but the area where we stayed is known as the “St Pauli” district. To say that it’s the seedy part of town is an understatement – it was PERFECT for us! The nearest pub to our hotel (a few doors away) had only the bartender, hookers and us as occupants. We tried, but we couldn’t get rid of the bartender so we paid for a “squeezer” for him from Sasha and that left Hedi and Brunella for us.
This morning we finally decided to lighten our load, and after a month on the 2008 Riding4Beer tour, we shipped home a box full of “items” that we’ve accumulated traveling through various countries. Also, it’s allot safer to get this stuff back into the United States via DHL (they never look in the boxes!) than by risking arrest at customs in the New York airport. Besides, if DHL does open the box, we shipped it under an assumed name and paid cash – it’s our friends that we shipped it to that have to worry!
With our contraband safely (and untraceably back to us) on its way, we figured we should get out of town as well. At the station we got on the first train leaving and it was headed for Berlin! That’s right folks, without a wall to keep us out we’re now in Berlin, and - get this - WE’RE SLEEPING IN A MONASTERY! (NOT KIDDING!). Just imagine how many nuns had sex in the room we're booked in! Any wagers on how long before we’re not only kicked out of our room, but out of the whole country…

As you all know, the fires are horrendous in California Right now. The Big Basin Complex fire in Big Sur is probably the biggest in California, and is less than 50 miles away from my house. Needless to say, I know many people whose houses are in danger as it heads towards Carmel Valley.
Please keep your thoughts out for people. Also...if you own a house, make SURE that you have at least 100 ft of clearing all the way around your house!
Oh, and Kevin and Stacy might want to stay across the world for a while and keep drinking that Bud...at least until the fires calm down and the air quality is safe again!! :0)
