OUR MOMS MAY OF HAD CHINA, BUT WE ONLY SAW IT ON HOLIDAYS!

FRIDAY!  Okay, here goes - IT'S THE WEEKEND HERE IN CHINA TOO!  After a hot and sticky (not in a good way) night in our cheap-ass hotel ($16/night!) we wandered out to see the "real" Shanghai.  Our room near People's Square has only a noisy desk-top fan for cooling, the mattress is actually made from bamboo (it's VERY "extra-firm") and there was only a bottom sheet.  Okay, for $16 bucks (100 Yuan) a night we didn't expect the Hilton, but it would've been okay if it even had a sofa sleeper like our trailer back home.  Anyway, our roommates (its a shared room with two other people from God knows where - they talk funny and we can't understand them!) seem like nice folks even though they really started  to like each other about 3am this morning.  Since there's no TV we figured it was a good substitute for watching in-room porn and we even learned some new sounds in a foreign language.

Eating here is a REAL experience.  Most places just have boxes and crates on the street of live stuff (like fish and chickens) and all the menus are in these weird characters - we think it's Chinese.  Anyway, we found a place that served "firepot" dinners for 5 bucks each (including beer - Budweiser - NOT KIDDING!).  Basically, they set a boiling steel pot of water on your table heated by glowing coals and you boil your own vegetables and pieces of mystery meat as you wish.  It's all very social and we met some interesting folks during dinner that gave us directions to a few local strip clubs where their sisters work.  We'll be checking those out later tonight.

Since this is the Riding4Beer World Tour we feel that we have to report on beer locally.  Budweiser comes in clear one liter (that's about a quart!) bottles and is only 12 Yuan at bars ($2) and about half that on the street.  Of course we buy it on the street because its cheaper and it's also more fun to be drunk in public.  We haven't been arrested yet for public intoxication (that is probably coming soon), but it is Friday night and we do have pockets full of Yuan...

TWO PICTURES AND A VIDEO - IT'S CHINESE BONUS DAY!

Stacy loved cooking for the first time in her life!    Almost a quart for just a buck on the streets & in a clear bottle!

This entry looks suspiciously like the TV shots of our so-called "moon landing." Are you sure you are not in San Francisco? I think I ate at that restaurant. I know I stayed at that hotel - - it's on Mission St., right?
