THIS IS WHY GENERAL SHERMAN DIDN'T BURN SAVANNAH!

Up early and on the bike riding out of St. Augustine we passed the School for the Deaf & Blind where Ray Charles studied (not kidding - it's AWESOME!).  For the first time on the trip we're heading north with the Atlantic Ocean literally lapping at the side of the roadway.   Near Jacksonville, we got to load the bike on the St. John's Ferry to cross the sound - now that was COOL!  Not much else to report about the ride today, except that once we got into Georgia (the "Peach State") the driving abilities of most motorists deteriorated dramatically.  Let's just say that if the posted speed limit is 55 mph, locals interpret that as 10 mph.  Likewise, drivers turning take several miles of thinking, slowing down, thinking again, signaling, thinking again again and finally turning - maybe.  Not that we're in any hurry, but WOW! - maybe the road signs confuse them because some have words with more than one syllable.

But all the driving issues aside, the destination, not the journey, was the reward today - SAVANNAH, GEORGIA!  After burning Atlanta, General Sherman captured Savannah, but choose not to destory it.  Now we know why!  You can keep your jet landings on aircraft carriers, your 200 mph mph race cars and your threesomes with twin stewardesses (maybe) -  but in the parking lot of our EconLodge ($39/night!) is a HOOTERS, a HARLEY dealership and a WAFFLE HOUSE!  This is like Disney World for low lifes like us!  The only thing missing is a Victoria's Secret.  We could call off the rest of the trip, spend a month here and consider our lives complete!

So let's talk Hooters - AWESOME- end of discussion right?  Tonya, our server from Texas, broke every rule so we got drunk and tipped HEAVY!  The joke's on her because, for some reason, while they accept checks, the one we wrote (while enormous) will bounce like Silly Putty tomorrow morning.  By the time they figure it out, we'll be across the state line and... Hmmmm, too bad, so sad!   Speaking of state lines, tomorrrow, we'll be riding long and hard all the way to...

It's not New Orleans - But BONUS photos anyway!

We're at the Atlantic - turning left - FINALLY!                           ACTION PHOTO - Kevin loading the bike on the ferry.

Our Army friends - We always buy drinks for our way of life!          Kevin with Tonya at Hooters - SHE'S AWESOME!

Why Hooters? - It's the food of course!                                                    The EconoLodge ROCKS!
