DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS

Sunday - Recovery Day!  After a gourmet breakfast of 99 cent yogurt parfaits at McDonald's we hit the road and headed south.  We only rode for about three hours today because we had a few beers last night at Hooters in Lubbock.  We didn't really drink that much, but it was kinda weird having the Coors distributor call them and ask, "...what the Hell is going on over there?"  Anyway, 178 miles later and we're deep in the heart of Texas in ABILENE - famous for ...well, not really famous for anything, but it is definitely Texas.  Every business, in every town we rode through today was closed.  Why?  Because it's Sunday and we're in the "Bible Belt" - as opposed to where we're from in Southern California - which is known as the "Plastic Surgery Belt."

We are staying at the luxurious five star EconoLodge here in Abilene.  There's a picture below of the resort grounds and of our room (actually suite!).  We not accustomed to such luxury, but it is Sunday and after 1,200 miles on the road we felt like being pampered.  Hey, you only live once, right?

For dinner we ate at an authentic Texas Chinese buffet.  The food was GREAT and the Hostess and staff were FANTASTIC!  Having been to China several times, we know you don't get authentic chinese food like this over there.  To get "real" chinese food you have to come to Abilene!  We're thinking about moving here just for the cuisine - but first we have to continue the riding4beer tour, so tomorrow we'll post again from.....

The Econolodge Resort grounds - only $39/night!         Our suite - note the bed is so large it touches all the walls!
"Chin" - Our Hostess for dinner                                             1,200 miles - 4 days - "man what a ride!"

Welcome to Abilene. Nice pic of Chin. You need to get a pic of the prairie dogs at Rosebud park before you leave.

Hey Kev and Stacy - Great hearing about your ride and the pics. Sounds like you are having a great time. Teresa and I just got back from the Wash State GWTA rally. Nothing like 340 pot bellied Gold Wingers with a major insulin rush from all the ice cream! Fortunately there are people in my chapter that drink enough for everyone else.

I'll be looking forward to all your exploits as well as seeing you guys in August.

    Say "hey" to George!

    Kevin & Stacy,

I'm glad to hear you are still alive and making excellent progress in your quest to ride around the United States...kinda reminds me of Forest Gump when he walked across the U.S.   Kevin, you even look like Forest! What a coincidence!

Didn't you get that Tide Stick idea from me the last time you were at my house when I was cleaning my thong?  I believe I should receive a footnote for that genius idea given the fact that girls even talk to you now.

    Cheers,
    Randall
